Let's DO IT!  Print this page so you will have a hard copy to work with while you use the computer.      | Disclaimer |

Don't be afraid to experiment a little.  Windows have built in fail safe features that will tell you when something is amiss or in the worst case scenario will lock up on you. If so soft boot , reset or turn your computer off and restart it in that order. The only thing that will get you in trouble is if you start fooling around with the settings without having  knowledge of what you are doing.
4. Now from start button select "Find".  Take a look at the form as you will use this often.  After looking at it just close it.  We'll go through this in detail later.  Just know where to go to open this important utility. Note: that the bar parallel to the start button has an icon button that says "Find" on it.  In the upper right hand corner are 3 symbols: - (minus), box, and an "X".  We know the "X" means exit.  The minus means keep the program running but minimize it to the status bar.  Click the minus sign and the window disappears. Want to have it reappear, click the status bar icon button that says "Find" and it will appear. This useful when you have more than one program running at the same time. You want get to the form behind another, go to the status bar and click the right icon button and that form will come to the front. The symbol that looks like a square or box means you want to maximize the form to fill the whole screen. When you do this the box will change to a double box which when clicked will restore the window to it's original size.   Now that you clicked all the functions just outlined it's time to close this form with the "X".
5. Find the computer and tell yourself the time. Lower right side of the "Desktop.
6. Find the "Desktop Tool Bar" normally located at the top of the screen. It's also called "Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar" All kinds of shortcuts can be applied, but normally is used for shortcuts to your applications. Open and close a couple of them.  Don't have, go to "Start", "Programs", "Startup" will list the programs that start when the computer is turned on.  We'll go into customizing this toolbar later.
READY FOR THE TEST? Sure you are. Click  Here

Soft boot: Ctrl+Alt+Delete will bring up a dialog box that will tell you which program is not responding. Find, select and press button "End Task". If still not responding, softboot again and Select "Shut Down" button. You will be given choice if you want to restart or actually turn your computer off.
1. Do you see your "Desktop"? (what's the "desktop", go back to  lesson one in first paragraph) click here
2. Okay, double click any icon on your desktop. A window will open and in the right hand corner will be an "X" button.  This is an exit command. Press it and the window should disappear. You should now be back to your desktop.
3. Now go to "Start Button" click, select "Programs" and from the menu that opens, select "Windows Explorer"  Should be one of the last listings available and being mostly alphabetical under "W" would be at the end of the alphabet. Good now you know how to get to the Windows Explorer also called "Tree" like a family tree with it's branches, and is also the foundation of your file system. Close it with the "X" in right hand corner.
